Over twenty-six years ago Christian Science came into my life quite unexpectedly. I was at that time suffering from a nervous disease. The doctor who was attending me suddenly became insane and sent me some medicine from his office which I learned later was the wrong kind. I took some of it, and from that mistake was a nervous wreck for six years. Up to that time I had never heard of Christian Science, but a friend, seeing my great need, offered me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After three weeks of constant study and prayer I was perfectly healed of nervousness. I was also healed of chronic sick headache, of sickness while riding on trains, rheumatism, a very badly sprained ankle, and severe eye trouble.

The greatest experience to me was the healing of a scalded foot. Falling from a stepladder I stepped into a pan of boiling water which had been placed on the stove. I was alone in the house at the time, and for a few moments was filled with fear; but those loving words from Isaiah came to me, "When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned." I repeated this aloud, and also "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). That seemed to destroy all fear; and in a few minutes I went back to my work, which lasted all the day. There were blisters as large as the palm of my hand on each side of the foot, but they caused me no trouble. In three days my foot was healed, except for a small spot where the shoe had rubbed.

I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church, and also in a Christian Science Society. I am sincerely grateful to our heavenly Father, who has promised us only good at all times, and also to Mrs. Eddy for making the way so plain for us. I have never taken a drop of medicine since turning to Christian Science; God has been my only physician. I have written this in the hope of helping someone to cast off the burden of fear, suffering, and doubt.
