I wish to express my gratitude for the work of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship...

I wish to express my gratitude for the work of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship instituted by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to tell of a healing which came to me through listening to a Christian Science lecture. For some weeks I had experienced a growing sense of lassitude and weakness which I had failed to destroy. I continued my work, but about the time that this lecture was to be given in the branch church which I attend, I found it a great effort to move about or to get up from my chair. I realized that I could not expect others to attend the lecture if I did not myself make every effort to do so; therefore I went to the church, although feeling much exhausted. The lecturer gave us a beautiful account of Mrs. Eddy's life-work, showed how she had founded the Christian Science movement, and spoke of the consecration and devotion which had enabled her to surmount all difficulty and opposition. As the lecture was unfolded, my joy increased more and more, and my heart was filled with gratitude for these gracious words of acknowledgment of our indebtedness to our Leader, and of the powerlessness of all that would oppose or obstruct. When the lecture was over I joyously rose from my seat, filled with vigor and strength. I left the church in perfect health, with a song of thankfulness in my heart, with a deeper love for our dear Leader and her work, and a greater desire to serve our great Cause.

Some weeks later when I was attacked by a severe headache it was instantly dismissed on my reading a report of this lecture in a newspaper. Not only did this lecture heal me of the physical difficulty, but it showed me that in order to help ourselves or others we need to gain "the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 560), and that this cannot be done if we are not alert in handling and casting out every falsity which would seek to have us "entertain a false estimate of anyone whom God has appointed to voice His Word" (ibid.), thereby obeying Article VIII, Section 6, of the Manual of The Mother Church.—(Miss)Mary E. Bovet, London, England.
