"Ever-flowing tides"

A good housewife usually greets the coming of spring with a thorough housecleaning, and this involves the removal of any dust or accumulated rubbish which seems incompatible with the freshness and fragrance of spring days. So, in spring, the visible home may express a higher standard of order and cleanliness. It is a question whether every householder takes the same care of his mental household, his thoughts, day by day.

Speaking of the action of Truth in human consciousness, Isaiah says, "The hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place." With what gratitude and eagerness every student of Christian Science should daily invite into his consciousness this action of Truth which sweeps away every refuge or subterfuge of error; every tendency towards self-justification, procrastination, fear, or discouragement. How efficaciously divine Love, when admitted into consciousness, overflows the old hiding places of resentment or sorrow! How it vivifies hope, cleanses the sinner, and awakens joy and geniality, even as spring awakens the slumbering buds!

Speaking of the Christ-principle, Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 149), "Its might is the ever-flowing tides of truth that sweep the universe, create and govern it; and its radiant stores of knowledge are the mysteries of exhaustless being. Seek ye these till you make their treasures yours." Everyone should constantly seek these "ever-flowing tides of truth," for they bear away that which is faulty, unworthy of retention or concealment. In this activity of Truth there is no accretion of error, mental, moral, or physical; no inertia, no stagnation.
