That God is an ever present help in trouble I have proved...

That God is an ever present help in trouble I have proved many times. I want to tell how I first became interested in Christian Science. I knew there was such a religion, but had never investigated it, although I had sought in various religions and cults to find the truth about God and man. Some years ago a friend visited me for a few days. When she departed I took her to the train. When, on returning to my home, I found a copy of The Christian Science Monitor and the Christian Science Sentinel on the porch table, my thought was that my friend had forgotten her literature, and that I would send it to her by mail the next day. I looked over the Monitor and then carefully read it, and thought it the finest newspaper that I had ever read. Then I began to read the Sentinel; and while reading it I glimpsed the truth that I had been seeking for many years. I read every word from cover to cover, and the truth continued to unfold to me. The next day I subscribed for the Sentinel, as I felt it would be a great help to me. I then procured a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," written by Mary Baker Eddy, and began searching in it for the overcoming of many anxious thoughts, and as time passed I found the help necessary for the solving of many difficult problems with the truth as taught in this wonderful book.

I had up to that time considered myself physically well, but as I studied I found I had many inharmonies that I could well dispense with, things that I had considered natural, such as chronic sore throat, sick headaches, and a "touchy" disposition. I could tell of many healings that I have had in the years that have elapsed since then, but will relate only one which occurred in July, 1924.

When crossing a business street to join some friends who were waiting for me in their automobile, I walked right in front of a swiftly moving street car. A practitioner was immediately called for. I was taken to the home of my friends in an ambulance, and the practitioner arrived almost as soon as I did. The street car company's surgeon was also there. The practitioner asked me if I wished the services of a surgeon. At first I thought I must have one, as there were broken bones and dislocations. I was silent for a moment and a voice within seemed to say, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." I said, "I will trust all to God." The surgeon, when told we were students of Christian Science and therefore did not wish his services, was very kind about it and took his departure.
