Christian Science is not an invention, but a discovery of the spiritual laws underlying the healing method and the teachings of Christ Jesus, a discovery that was made by Mary Baker Eddy because of her character, her integrity, and her inspired understanding of the Bible. When the spiritual teachings of Christian Science are understood and demonstrated, they are found completely consistent and in perfect agreement with inspired Scripture. Christian Scientists joyfully acknowledge the truths of the Bible, and adopt them as standards for their daily living. Mrs. Eddy wrote as the first religious tenet of Christian Science, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 497).
