In the news item in your recent issue headed "Englishman Lectures on Christian Science," the statement is made that the lecturer "is a leader of a progressive movement within the Christian Science church." Kindly allow me to correct this statement and to say for the benefit of your readers, so that they may not be misinformed, that this lecturer is in no way affiliated with the Christian Science church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts; neither is he a member of a branch of that church. And as there is no agitation such as a "progressive movement" within the Christian Science church. established by Mary Baker Eddy, whom loyal Christian Scientists all over the world recognize as their only Leader, it follows that there is no possibility of another leader. Any activity which the group of which he is a member may be promulgating in the name of Christian Science is not in accord with the teachings of legitimate Christian Science, and is repudiated by all loyal Christian Scientists. Furthermore, authorized Christian Science lectures can be delivered only by members of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. You are correct in your statement to the effect that this lecturer's "progressive views put him at variance with The Mother Church," from which he withdrew; also, that his visit to East Orange was not recognized by officials of the Christian Science churches there.
