In the last nine years Christian Science has resurrected...
In the last nine years Christian Science has resurrected me from many false beliefs and raised me from a state of helplessness to a life of activity. In 1915, I graduated from a nurses' training school. I followed my profession until December, 1919, when I had a nervous breakdown. Subsequent to this attack there were times when I hardly knew how I could go on with my duties. I was constantly using material remedies, both internally and externally. From the age of six years until I was seventeen years old, I had undergone four operations for tonsil and adenoid trouble. But when I wanted to enlist for service during the world war, I was told that I must have my tonsils removed. When I went to camp four months later, after feeling badly for a whole summer, I was told that I had influenza and tonsillitis in the worst form.
During this time I began to read the Bible quite frequently, especially the ninety-first psalm and the thirteenth chapter of I Corinthians. My sister, a brother, and his wife were Christian Scientists; also, a dear aunt had been a Christian Scientist for many years. One day my sister came to see me at the hospital where I was staying as a patient. That evening I asked her if she would read the Christian Science Lesson-Sermon, and she did so. The next day I returned with her to Chicago and had my first Christian Science treatment. In less than three months I started to work. I have never had any throat trouble since beginning the study of Christian Science.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, also for class instruction.
