I shall always be truly grateful to the friend who told me of Christian Science and persuaded me to borrow the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I was suffering from a very painful tumor in the breast, and only temporary relief was obtained by applying hot fomentations when I went to bed. After I had read a few chapters of the textbook, the thought came to me, Here is an opportunity to test the healing power of Christian Science. So the fomentations were discontinued, and I decided to put my trust in God alone. After reading daily for some weeks I discovered one evening that the lump had entirely disappeared. I threw away all medicines and material remedies, of which I had many, and have never used any since.

Bronchitis, which every winter attacked me several times, was overcome. Constipation, bilious attacks, nervous spasms in the throat causing a choking cough, and other ills, have all been destroyed by this healing truth. One winter I was very ill. A doctor pronounced the trouble to be pneumonia, and said that if I lived, which he doubted even if I used his remedies, which I refused to do, it would be a "score for Christian Science." Through the loving help of a practitioner who came to me and remained up all night, the distressing symptoms were gone by morning. In eight days I got up and went to stay with a friend, and in three weeks returned home and took up my usual duties.

I am so grateful that through the teachings of Christian Science I have gained a better understanding of God and of man in His image and likeness. Instead of a powerful person, who always seemed to be sending sorrow and sickness, I now have a God of love, an ever present help, to whom I can turn with certainty at all times and in all places. The Christian Science textbook has made the Bible a new book to me. Many questions which had always puzzled me, and which had seemed contradictory and impossible, have been made clear. I now love to read the Bible with Science and Health, which is truly a "key."
