My gratitude for Christian Science is boundless

My gratitude for Christian Science is boundless. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." These words of the Psalmist have been proved to me since I took up this beautiful religion, Christian Science. I was an invalid eighteen years. I tried nearly everything it seemed that a person could try, had many doctors and specialists, went through an operation; and after that I was bedridden four years. I had to be fed and handled as a child. The doctors said I would never get out of bed, and none could even diagnose my All I did was to pray to God that I would not lose my mind. Words cannot explain what I went through. Then I met a person who claimed she could heal me through magnetic power. I got out of bed gradually, walked for nine months on crutches, was finally led by my father outside, and thought I was doing nicely. I was very grateful for every move I could make. Then my dear father was taken from me very suddenly, and the shock I received brought me back to the stage where I had been before. So my life was spent in invalidsim; but I always held on to God, and I thought I knew Him, but was mistaken.

Christian Science had been offered to me many times; but I was very much opposed to it, because I thought my prayers would be answered just as well as Christian Science prayers. One day a friend brought me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and said that I should try to read it. I told her that I was not able to read, but would do what I could. I read a line of the Lord's Prayer, because that was all I could do. Sometimes my sight would leave me, so I tried to read a little each time, but could not understand what I read. I returned the book, and after three years' time began to wonder whether Christian Science could help me. A neighbor brought to see me a friend who had been healed in Christian Science. Once more I borrowed a copy of Science and Health, and tried to read it, but still could not understand it. At last I was ready, however, to take up Christian Science, and sent for a practitioner. At my first treatment I had an instantaneous healing of chronic constipation, for which I was very grateful. I saw a change each day; and was led to a very dear practitioner, who unfolded this wonderful truth to me. On the twelfth day I was able to take my first steps outdoors without any assistance except that of divine power. I could feel the divine energy bringing me into newness of life, as we read of on page 249 of Science and Health. My mother was overjoyed when she saw me. These words came to me from "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." I took a cane and walked, remembering the prophet's further words, "I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." The walking was done without my being fatigued in the and I glorified God for His loving-kindness. My first year in Christian Science was wonderfully uplifting. I made demonstrations each day, because there was so much to overcome. Everybody rejoiced with me, but none would believe my healing until they saw me personally; they all thought it was impossible. Now over six years have passed, and my healing has been permanent.

I am indeed grateful for all that Christian Science has done and is doing for me daily.
