Light

Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 504), speaks of light as "the revelation of Truth and of spiritual ideas." A dictionary tells us that a revelation is "the communication of sacred truths from heaven."

Light is always shining in heaven. How could it be otherwise, since right thinking governs there? As students of Christian Science we have already learned in our textbook (p. 291) that heaven is "a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are harmonious and immortal, because sin is not there." It is sin which would darken the light! As we go on, expressing more of the divine qualities, we soon find that light is always with us, for Truth is continually being revealed, and is always present to help us reverse the darkness of wrong thinking. The things which have been divinely created will never change; and all we have to do is to see the true creation. To see spiritually we must think spiritually; and as we let Truth and Love govern our lives and become more and more our constant companions, we are letting the light shine in our consciousness; and thus we see the perfectness of God's creation, and "the revelation of Truth and of spiritual ideas," of which our Leader speaks, continues to unfold naturally.

One may say, How can I make use of spiritual ideas in my daily life, which appears to be so material? In this way would error try to make us believe that our life is material, when Life, being divine Principle, is Spirit, God, and man is spiritual. If ever this suggestion of error presents itself, let us open our thought to the light of spiritual understanding, and we shall soon witness the working of divine law. Let us first accept the simple fact that God created all; let us declare that fact, affirm it over and over again, abide in it, ponder it, and we shall soon realize that a cause has to be expressed; otherwise, it would not be a cause. We know that it is light which reveals reflection. God, the great I AM, the only cause and Principle of all that exists, the one Spirit, can be manifested only in His own likeness.
