Though a student of the Bible from childhood, and for many years an earnest worker in a Protestant church, I had never felt satisfied with the understanding of God and man that I had been able to gain. As years passed, this dissatisfaction seemed to grow into a sense of unrest at times almost unbearable.

While searching everywhere for some light on the subject of creation and existence, I was offered some copies of a magazine in which were found some articles purporting to denounce Christian Science. As these articles were read, there came a great desire to know something of the other side of the question—to know something about Christian Science.

Living as I was at that time in a small town in the East, and having never met a Christian Scientist, I knew not where to look for information in regard to this teaching. That God "guides every event of our careers," as Mrs. Eddy says in "Unity of Good" (p. 3), seemed to be proved in the fact that a few weeks later there came to live near us a lady who was said to be a Christian Scientist. No time was lost in asking for information as to where the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, might be secured. A copy was bought, and the truth gleaned from the study of the first Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly convinced me that I had found that for which I had been searching. And I became an earnest student of Christian Science.
