Over eighteen years ago Christian Science was brought...
Over eighteen years ago Christian Science was brought to my attention in such a way that I wanted to know more about its teaching. I at once began reading with great interest some Christian Science Sentinels that were given me by a friend. I saw in these articles something different from my former teaching, something soothing and satisfying, and as each writer referred to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I soon purchased a copy of this book, which I read very eagerly, as I was hungry for the truth it contained. In three weeks I found myself healed of a discordant internal organic condition from which I had suffered for years, and from which physicians said only an operation could give me relief. From a discouraged, unhappy woman I became healthy, happy, and useful. I have never used drugs or any material remedies since taking up the study of Christian Science. I have also been comforted and sustained during a time of great sorrow, proving our Leader's words in the textbook (p. 567), "Truth and Love come nearer in the hour of woe, when strong faith or spiritual strength wrestles and prevails through the understanding of God."
I am most grateful for this and many other healings and blessings that have come to me in the years that have followed; most grateful for having had the privilege of class instruction; and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. For all the blessings that have come to me I can best express my gratitude in the words from one of our Leader's hymns (Poems, p. 13):
