Soon after I began the study of Christian Science I was...
Soon after I began the study of Christian Science I was healed of sleeplessness which had been chronic, of neuralgia and terrible pains in the head from which I had suffered since childhood. These healings took place through the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and other Christian Science literature, and with the help of a friend.
I have received so many blessings that it would be impossible to relate them all, but I should like to tell of a healing that was almost instantaneous, in the hope that it may help others who are troubled and discouraged. On returning home one day after several hours' absence, I found our young son of thirteen in agony and crying incessantly. He complained of pain in one of his ears. I sat down beside his bed and began to declare the truth. After an hour I felt that the healing ought to have taken place, but the boy continued to cry, and for an instant I felt discouraged. The thought came that something was lacking in my work; but immediately, as if someone had spoken, these words of Mrs. Eddy from Science and Health (p. 97) came to my thought: "The higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion." The nothingness of error became so clear to me that I recommenced my work with increased assurance and faith. After several minutes the lad fell asleep. A little later my husband, who was not interested in Christian Science, came to inform me that the doctor had arrived. I refused to allow the child to be awakened, as I felt the healing was complete. The doctor told us that there was an epidemic of influenza in the town, and that abscesses in the ears were common in connection with it. An hour later the boy awoke perfectly well and happy. The healing was permanent, to the great astonishment of the doctor, who had warned us that the suffering would return.
I thank God for having led me to Christian Science, for this was surely in answer to prayer; and I "praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" My heart is filled with gratitude to our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having explained his teachings. I am also grateful to all who have pointed out the way to me.—(Mrs.) Maria Ratko Stameroff. Kishinef, Rumania (Bessarabia).
