No one has greater cause than I have for gratitude for...
No one has greater cause than I have for gratitude for benefits received from Christian Science. I feel that my slow healing has been a blessing in disguise, and has proved an incentive to me to bear up and press on.
Like many others, I once had a very perverted notion of Christian Science, thinking its adherents queer and its teachings occult; so when a beloved practitioner invited me to go with her to church I declined. She continued to manifest so much love, however, and was so patient in answering my questions and bearing with my egotism, that I suggested going with her on a Wednesday evening. Imagine my surprise to find the big church filled with bright and intelligent people! I had never heard such testimonies; and during the silent prayer I felt so humbled, for I realized that all my life (I had been a member of the Presbyterian church since I was twelve years old) I had kept only the outside of the platter clean, and was indeed far from home. I was then and there healed of all faith in medicine, and a beautiful revelation that Christian Science is the truth came to me. Needless to say, I have never since needed an invitation to attend church, for it is a very dear place to me. I was wonderfully healed of a severe attack of grippe in one treatment; and, later, I was healed of sorrow and of an organic trouble.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, I wish to thank the many kind friends, both far and near, who have loyally helped me in so many ways; for thus I have been enabled to see, step by step, how tenderly the dear Father was leading me, and how much more I needed to know Him than I needed the physical healing which in my ignorance I thought could be bought. Oh, how I long to be worthy the name of Christian Scientist!—(Mrs.) Mary J. Knox, Los Angeles, California.
