If it were not for Christian Science, I should not be here...
If it were not for Christian Science, I should not be here to-day; and I should feel unworthy of the name Christian Scientist if I did not give this testimony. When I took up the study of Christian Science, I could eat or sleep but very little, and had frequent chills with fever, besides other sufferings. My mother, having been healed in Christian Science a short time before, urged me to get the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it for myself. Material remedies had failed, so I bought the book. I found that it was just what I was hungering for; and as I read and understood the truths it teaches, my body began to improve; and now my health is consistently very good. I was healed of nervous indigestion, malaria, heart trouble, extreme weakness, and many other ills. Although I began to improve from the first, it was seven or eight years before my heart acted properly.
At one time I had a very serious illness, and after several days felt as if I were passing on. I did not tell the family of this for fear of alarming them. I only asked them to call a practitioner and to say that my heart had apparently stopped beating. Before the practitioner reached me I had lost consciousness; but before doing so I remember repeating, "God is my Life," which I gasped out, one word at a time. As the practitioner reached my bedside, I regained consciousness. The following day I walked into the next room to the telephone.
My husband has been healed of a severe case of influenza and bad headaches, and has been helped in other ways. Our children have had wonderful healings also. When twins came into our home, the doctor said he was very much afraid they would not be born alive. I asked him not to say that, and no time was lost in notifying the practitioner. The first child seemed dead when it came, but soon manifested life; the other one was all right. Later I was alarmed to find that one of them could not hold up its head properly. Again the practitioner, who had been so patient with my fears, was called, and soon the child was normal. If this were the only healing we had experienced, I could never be grateful enough for Christian Science.
