As I have been helped so much by the testimonies of others, I feel I should like to express my gratitude by contributing one of my own. Since I took up the study of Christian Science over twelve years ago, I have seemed to live in a different world; for my whole outlook on life has been changed; and with my changed thought has come a changed body. Formerly, I was always ailing, and suffered constantly from prostrating headaches; and I could never make engagements with any degree of certainty of being able to fulfill them. The last time error attacked me in that form was just after I began the study of Christian Science; and it was the fiercest attack I remember. I did not know how to work in Christian Science, but I knew that I ought not to go to my bed, as I had done on previous occasions; and so I took up that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, thinking that if I could take it to a quiet spot and read it, I would be healed; so I started to walk to a heath near by, where I thought I should not be disturbed, and where I could sit unobserved. I was so eager to get help that I read the book as I walked to the place I had in view. It was only a short distance from my home, but on reaching the desired spot I suddenly realized that the attack had entirely disappeared; and from that day I have been free from what was for many years the terror of my life. This is only one of the many healings I have had.
On one occasion when boiling water was poured accidentally over my hand, all pain had disappeared before I had finished repeating the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). On another occasion a door closed heavily on my hand, and as I was wearing several rings on one of my fingers, the stones cut into the joint and caused me very severe pain. Again the "scientific statement of being" was instantly declared, and all pain ceased; and on the following morning the incident was not even remembered till I had been awake some time. On looking at the finger, I found that the cut caused by the piercing of the stones into the flesh was entirely healed; only the faintest red line was noticeable, and all pain and discomfort had gone.
I am grateful for these and many other healings, and for the great happiness it gives to be able to help others; also for many instances of divine protection experienced in times of seeming danger, and for many divine leadings in times of perplexity. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and also in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, as well as for the privilege of class instruction, and the help of practitioners and friends.—(Mrs.) Ellen Maud Gibson, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.
