My attention has been called to the fact that some persons have felt inclined to make unkind remarks about those who are Christian Scientists, to the effect that they are not inclined to obey the regulations which the city authorities have established at this time. Will you kindly permit me to say that Christian Science teaches preeminently obedience to all established laws and regulations and that Christian Science practitioners and those who follow the teachings of Christian Science are more than usually observant of health regulations and quarantine requirements, as health officers are glad to admit. Christian Scientists know that faith in God is more powerful to check an epidemic of fear, like the present epidemic, than is faith in drugs or other so-called preventive methods; but they do not endeavor to force this upon their neighbors. They aim, rather, to recognize at all times the standpoint of those who believe differently, and desire to do to others what they themselves would wish done, if the positions were reversed. For this reason the local Christian Science church was prompt to meet the wishes of the city officials and closed its Sunday school to all until further notice; and it will be equally prompt in acquiescing to any regulation that those in authority deem wise for the general protection at this time.
