I am so grateful for all that Christian Science has done...
I am so grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me that I feel I must try to express a little of it. When I first heard of its wonderful teachings, I was literally in physical and mental anguish. A few years previously I had experienced what is called a "severe nervous shock," which manifested itself in chronic sleeplessness. Drugs of various kinds had been resorted to for this complaint, until they had lost the power they were supposed to have.
When Christian Science was brought to my notice, I well remember the argumentative frame of mind I was in with regard to it; but even then I felt that my attitude was one of mere bravado; and within a day or two in much distress I went to the kind friend who had told me about it, and asked her if she thought it could heal me. Whereupon, after assuring me that it could heal me, she telegraphed to a practitioner, and treatment was begun. The healing did not take place immediately, although I was much helped; indeed, it was a considerable time before the condition was overcome, because, as I now realize, I was then looking much more for the material manifestation than for a better understanding of God. The lessons which I learned during that time were invaluable; and I am grateful for the experience.
I should like also to express gratitude for having had the privilege of working as an Associate at The Christian Science Benevolent Association sanatorium for six months, and the joy of being able, during that time, to attend services and lectures in The Mother Church. I am also inexpressibly grateful for class instruction, which has so wonderfully enlarged my understanding of God and man, and has made me appreciate, more than ever before, the inspired life of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. And I should like also to express much gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; also, for all the activities connected with the Christian Science movement.—(Miss) E. Margaret Jardine Stuart, London, England.
