In reply to a critic's comments on a Christian Science lecture, I would say that the seven hundred people who listened with rapt attention for an hour and a quarter to its wonderful message to mankind, did not go to hear of failures. They wanted to know how Christian Science heals all manner of sin and sickness, and whether it could help them. The lecturer, however, did refer to the possibility of failure—not of the Principle of healing (God), but in the application of the healing truth by those who, like Jesus' own disciples, had not the measure of spiritual understanding possessed by the Master. Taking as an example the science of mathematics, he showed that our faulty working of a sum does not disprove the rules of mathematics. Christian Science has healed functional and organic diseases after all other methods have failed. Why? Because it does not rely on constantly changing human theories, but turns wholly to God, divine Mind, "who healeth all thy diseases." Through Christian Science treatment, the coming of the Christ, Truth, to human consciousness gives dominion over sin and sickness. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Your correspondent refers to the greater curative qualities of "nature," speaks of "its material existence," and informs us that man can assist it. He apparently refers to the so-called physical laws which appear to govern the universe, both for good and for evil. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 140), "The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death." To use the words of your correspondent, "Such is the love of God."
