When Christian Science found me, about twenty years...
When Christian Science found me, about twenty years ago, my church no longer gave me any comfort, and life seemed a weary round with no prospect of health or brightness. When I heard about Christian Science and its healing works, the thought came to me: Yes, I have been taught to believe that God is almighty, but here is a religion which is able to prove that God really has power to help in trouble or sickness; so, surely, it must be the truth which I so much need.
At the first opportunity I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I simply devoured this book every spare moment. Since then, through persistent study of the Bible with Science and Health and Mrs. Eddy's other writings, with the help of loving practitioners, also through our Christian Science services, class instruction, lectures, and literature, I have been completely healed of a chronic disease of the ears accompanied with deafness; of sick headaches; of influenza; and I have been wonderfully helped over a defect in speech and a nerve trouble. Christian Science has also healed me of the habit of worrying, and of fear in various directions; it has helped me through a difficult financial problem, and is making me look to God for help to meet every need. My healing has been slow; but for this I am grateful, as it has compelled me to persevere and to prove, as we are told in the Bible, that "in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
The Bible had become a closed book to me, but through the study of Science and Health I am able to enjoy reading it, and am more and more seeing its spiritual meaning. I am intensely grateful for all these benefits, but above all I am grateful that I am surely gaining a right understanding of God and His creation. My desire is so to live that I may be able to help others, and thus express my debt of gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whose pure and loving life the truth which Jesus promised should make us free, has again been revealed and made available in the present day. It is also a great privilege and joy to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and to have a share in Church work.
