My first healing in Christian Science was slow, for which I am very grateful, because while I studied to be free from pain I learned in a degree to be free from material sense. I suffered and was discouraged, until a friend told me about Christian Science. I am very grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which has opened the Bible to me. Through the study of the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science I have found the God who is Love and Christ Jesus "the mediator, or way-shower, between God and men" (Science and Health, p. 30).
I have been healed of many false religious beliefs. The spiritual interpretation of the Bible teachings has helped me to get rid of fear and doubt. Through the patient, consecrated work of a true practitioner I have received physical healing. An ulcerated tooth was healed through absent treatment, and the tooth did not have to be pulled. One day, several years ago, I was in a hurry and stepped upon the edge of a chair to reach something on a high shelf. I fell and sprained my ankle. At first I could not bear my weight upon that foot. As I was alone, I knew I would have to do my own mental work. I turned to God in gratitude for benefits already received. I made the effort to use my foot, and was able to walk after some trying. After three days I was able to forget about the trouble. I have had other healings through the study and application of Christian Science.
A gathering on my finger gave me a very good lesson. The first appearance of this condition was on the left hand, and in accordance with my wishes at that time it was opened. The hand troubled me for two weeks. The second appearance of this condition came on the right hand, after I had begun to study Christian Science. I used my hand every day, and did not open the affected part. After a couple of treatments the condition gradually disappeared. Headaches and heartaches have also been healed.
