The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Frankfurt a/M, Germany (First Church).
Lecturer: Algernon Hervey Bathurst; introduced by Mrs. Paula Zehn, who said: —
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Christ Jesus, the most scientific man who ever walked upon earth, brought these glad tidings more than nineteen hundred years ago to a world torn by sin, sickness, and fear. The humble Nazarene demonstrated continually that he was able to correct every distressed condition, be it of sin, sickness, lack, or death. He taught his disciples to recognize that it was solely the power of ever present divine Love that enabled him to destroy evil, and he enjoined upon them to do the same. It was only for a comparatively short time that this command was carried out; then material healing methods gained ground, but suffering increased. A half century ago, the discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, took up the command again. She discovered the spiritual laws of Life and Love and gave them to the world in her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Everyone who studies this book without prejudice, and thoroughly, together with the Bible, and faithfully applies the rules contained therein to his daily life, can prove for himself that Christian Science really follows the command of Christ Jesus to heal the sick and destroy sin.
