[Original testimony in German]
In May, 1923, I was suddenly taken ill
In May, 1923, I was suddenly taken ill. I consulted a medical practitioner, who said I was suffering from pulmonary catarrh. He prescribed some medicines, but my condition grew worse daily, until he said I must go to a sanitarium as quickly as possible. At first I was opposed to this; but as he gave me otherwise only six months to live, I decided to go to Arosa, the confederate sanitarium, where I remained five months. I did not improve there, although I was discharged as better on February 15. In March I tried to work again, and by being very careful I was able to do so until September 12; then I became worse than ever. The physician said I could not leave on account of the high fever, so a number of tuberculin injections were made; but I grew worse from day to day.
In our house a little boy who was suffering from double pneumonia, and who had been given up by the doctor, was healed in a few days through Christian Science. His mother told us about it, beaming with joy; and what was more natural than that we should send at once for the same practitioner? Through the simple, wonderful explanations, as found in Christian Science, of the real man's relationship to God as the only help and power, my fear was quickly overcome. The high fever disappeared the same evening, for it was caused by thoughts of fear; and I got up. The next day, and following days, I went for walks. The erroneous thoughts were gradually overcome, and in proportion came the healing. To-day my occupation is the lifting and carrying of sacks weighing two hundredweight. I know that when I am really conscious of divine Truth, health and happiness are my portion. I am, therefore, sincerely grateful to God that I have found this way, and to all those who helped me to find it.—
JAKOB PILAT, St. Margrethen, Switzerland.
