[Written for the Sentinel]

From Sense to Soul

LIST , O tired one in the valley,
To thy Saviour's "Peace, be still."
As he spake to troubled waters,
So he speaks to mortal ill.

Art thou waiting by Bethesda
Till the pool shall troubled be?
Christ, the Truth, is softly saying,
Love divine hath made thee free.

Turn thy footsteps from the valley,—
There is naught for thee to fear,—
To the mount of perfect vision,
Where the way is always clear.

Follow, then, the loving Shepherd
To the pastures soft and green,
There to rest beside still waters;
On Love's staff thou mayest lean.

Peace there is past understanding,
As thy thoughts ascend above,
And thou findest Life eternal
In the consciousness of Love.
