Having received much benefit through Christian Science...

Having received much benefit through Christian Science over defective eyesight, I feel an earnest desire to help others who may be faced with a similar problem.

When Christian Science first came into my life I was inclined to submit to the belief that sight must become dim; but after receiving kindly help from practitioners, I realized that man has been given dominion over all so-called material laws, so that we should rebel against them, seeing clearly (discerning) that sight is independent of matter. I realized that spiritual vision does not depend on a lens; that as God's likeness, I did not require bits of glass for sight.

The clear understanding came to me that I was not responsible for sight. I felt that divine Mind expresses its faculties through man. I stopped thinking of "my sight." Fear and anxiety left me; I felt a wonderful freedom; I knew that what I was required to see I could see. Two lines from one of our hymns helped me to gain and to hold on to this vision:
