As reported in your recent issue, a revivalist in First Baptist Church strayed from preaching his own gospel in order to assert his opinion that Christian Science is neither Christian nor Science. He also intimated that the teachings of Christian Science are not founded upon the teachings of the Bible. Such observations are lacking in validity. They reveal a state of ignorance or bias on the part of the speaker in question. Investigators of Christian Science demand proof, not personal opinion. And proof is available to anyone who desires to compare the teachings of Christian Science with that of the Scriptures. Many Christian Scientists and many fair-minded persons who are not Christian Scientists are willing to testify that Christian Science is Christian because it is imbued with beneficent characteristics, and that it is Science because it heals the sick and reforms the sinner with exactitude. With reference to the Scriptural foundation and divine inspiration of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy has written as follows (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 110): "In follwoing these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated. No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book, Science and Health; and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it."
