References to Christian Science in your recent issue which need correction have just been called to my attention. As these references appear in the report of one of the sermons delivered against so-called "faith healers," I beg leave to say, first, that Christian Science does not belong to the so-called faith-healing sects, nor has it anything in common with suggestion, hypnotism, or other forms of mental healing based on human will-power. Christian Science indeed inclucates faith, but not a blind faith in some unknown power of doubtful origin. The basis of its faith is spiritual understanding with ample proof of its efficacy in healing sickness and overcoming sin. To the charge that Christian Science is not Christian, I have to say that, in its study and practice continuing over a score of years, I have not found anything therein that conflicts in the slightest degree with the precepts and practice of Jesus. Indeed, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and Mrs. Eddy's other writings are all of them reasonable deducations from the divine premises of Christ Jesus' teaching. The conduct of Christian Scientists is itself evidence that their teaching is in conformity with Christianity.

To the erroneous assertion that Christian Science is not Science, I have to say that there is nothing in its teaching that is not based on the unchangeable truth of Divine Being. Therefore, when speaking of a spiritually real Science, Mrs. Eddy wrote: "All Science is divine, not human, in origin and demonstration. If God does not govern the action of man, it is inharmonious: if He does govern it, the action is Science" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 58). The statement found in another column that "no present-day healings are recorded as in the days of Christ's presence on earth" is in no sense a reflection on Christian Science. It is only a sad admission of the author's inability to recognize the ever present healing virtue practiced by him who said, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
