If I overcome,
I am to have the morning star!
Christ Jesus knew that;
On Patmos he told it to John.
The morning star —
Clear, serene, steadfast In light,
Before daylight,
White in blue black!
I shall overcome;
For I desire the light of the morning star;
And Jesus told John I could have it.

If I overcome,
I am to have white raiment!
It shall be soft and white always,
Of a piece with that majesty and light
Wherewith my Father is clothed.
It shall be soft and very strong, too;
For my Father is clothed with strength.
Love is very strong, we know.
The soldiers cast lots for Jesus' seamless dress —
He had no need for it
When he rose to behold
Absolute purity vested.
He told John about it.
And my Father has settled
That I, too, am to dress
In that purity.
I shall overcome!

And I am to have a new name —
When I overcome!
I shall be glad at that new name;
For it is what God shall call me.
Myself and that name shall be the same.
None of the beauty God gives me Shall be slighted, forgot,
In that name.
I shall overcome;
For God calls me now by that name.
Jesus knew it; he told it to John.
