For many years prior to January, 1921, I was troubled with severe pains in my back to such an extent that at times I was unable to attend to my duties. Each time I was attacked with these pains a physician was called, who, after making an examination, prescribed medicines of various kinds. While the medicine seemed to lessen the pain and I was enabled to return to my duties, still a cure was not effected.

These conditions continued until eight years ago, when I had a very serious attack of the same trouble. A physician was called, and after a thorough examination said that some of the muscles of my back were not functioning as they should, and prescribed tight strapping of my back. This treatment was continued for some time, after which I was incased in a plaster cast. In about two weeks the first cast was removed and another closer fitting cast was applied, which was worn for two weeks. Upon the removal of the second cast a steel and leather belt was prescribed. This I wore continually until the fall of 1920, when I was again stricken with severe pains, but this time in my limbs as well as my back. I was confined to my bed for five months, during which time several physicians were called, and I was finally removed to a sanitarium for treatment of sciatic rheumatism. After three weeks of treatment with no noticeable improvement I was removed to my home. Several other treatments were tried with no success.

It was at this time that Christian Science was brought to my attention. A neighbor inquired of one of the members of my family as to my condition, and upon being informed there was no improvement, she asked if I had ever tried Christian Science and was told it had never been brought to my notice. A day or two later my neighbor was invited to call upon me. She did so, and after she had told of many wonderful healings which had been effected through Christian Science, I decided to try it and see what it could do in my case. A copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was secured, and I read it earnestly. A very noticeable change took place as I began to realize the wonderful truth; and it was at this point that I was enabled to make my first demonstration in Christian Science.
