Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1925

For the State of Texas.

Thirty-five corrections were submitted to the newspapers and other periodicals of the state, thirty of which were published as submitted. The most important article written was that published in the January issue of the Texas State Journal of Medicine, this having been offered to the Journal for the purpose of correcting a very bitter and otherwise erroneous attitude held by it towards Christian Science and Christian Scientists, as indicated by some very severe editorials attacking Christian Scientists and their religious practice. This article, which was given wide distribution, served its purpose to an agreeable extent in that it has done away with much misunderstanding, paving the way for more harmonious relations between the medical faculty of the state and the Christian Scientists.

In three instances where replies were not published they appear to have served their intended purpose. Several of the erroneous items requiring attention appeared in small places where there are no Christian Science organizations, nor any students of Christian Science, the criticisms being called to the attention of the Committee on Publication by persons who had no particular interest in Christian Science but who desired to see what they termed "fair play." This indicates a growing disposition on the part of the general public to disapprove of misrepresentations of Christian Science; and the editors of these newspapers revealed a fine spirit of tolerance in publishing the replies.
