In a syndicated article appearing in a recent issue of the World under "Dorothy Dix's Letter Box" the question is asked, "How may one overcome the inferiority complex?" In answering the query Miss Dix says in part, "Hold the thought, as our Christian Science friends would say, that you are the most beautiful, the most marvelous, the most admired and successful woman in the world." The statement as presented would mislead your readers as to what Christian Science teaches in handling this important and vital subject. That any misapprehension may be corrected, audi alteram partem. Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes on page 261, "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportinably portionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Then, turning to page 13, you will find these words: "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.' "
Self-depreciation is often alluded to as humility, while self-exaggeration and egotism frequently usurp the throne of true self-knowledge. It is in the great realm of true individualism, to many as yet unexplored, that true character and self-reliance are found. In the final analysis, "inferiority complex" can be traced to the scrap heap of human fear. Turning the pages of history, we see upon the horizon the beacon lights of manhood's highest form of fearlessness, Moses and Jesus, the bulwarks of moral integrity and spiritual law; while Mrs. Eddy, as discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, is the modern outstanding example of the possibilities of woman's achievements, worthiness, spirituality, and wondrous triumphs through the practical application of the teaching of the master Metaphysician, Jesus the Christ, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
