I was in great need of God when Christian Science came...
I was in great need of God when Christian Science came to me. I had been given up by some of our most skilled physicians on account of serious throat trouble which had set in after an operation for the removal of my tonsils, resulting in the most severe attacks of coughing a mortal could live through. The doctors twice advised a change of climate, hoping to benefit me, but it all proved of no avail.
During my last trip South a very kind friend presented me with a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and urged me as a last resort to try Christian Science. This I did; and I seemed to be ready for it. My healing was not an instantaneous one by any means; it meant work, and plenty of it, for some time. As the spiritual enlightenment unfolded to me, I grew to see the unreality of error; fear diminished, and I realized I had found the "pearl of great price." As I look back upon it now, I see it as a splendid schooling, the worth of which can never be written or told.
Cleaning out the tenacious material beliefs that had held me in bondage for so long has been a grand and glorious fight on God's side, completely and wholly won; for at present I am studying voice again, singing with better understanding than ever in my life. Only those who have sung and have been deprived of that precious gift can understand what it means to be free again, to be able to praise God in song, and to rejoice that divine Love is pointing the way to this achievement.
