On page 1 of "Rudimental Divine Science" Mrs. Eddy...
On page 1 of "Rudimental Divine Science" Mrs. Eddy defines Christian Science as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." I am grateful that the application of this law of God to many discordant conditions has brought healing and harmony to me and to other members of our family, also to many relatives and friends who had failed to find relief from numerous physical ailments through material means. From early childhood I had suffered from extreme nervousness, stomach trouble, sick headache, kidney trouble, and other difficulties, from which I had failed to get relief through the taking of many different kinds of medicine. One day I received a letter from a friend asking me to investigate Christian Science.
At this time I knew nothing about Christian Science, but with the desire of helping this friend I went to the home of a neighbor who had been healed in Christian Science, and asked her to tell me about it. After she had explained it to me, I knew it was the truth for which I had been seeking. I began the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I shall never forget the peace and spiritual uplift experienced while attending my first Christian Science service.
We have had many healings in our family, among them the healing of severe burns, tonsillitis, blood poisoning, fear, resentment, rheumatism, and a broken ankle bone. Through the efficient help of a practitioner the last-named was healed in about ten days. I was very grateful for this experience, as it proved that God's Word is "quick, and powerful."
