As the experience which caused me to take up the study...

As the experience which caused me to take up the study of Christian Science has been such a wonderful revelation to me in demonstrating the healing Christ, by transforming my faith from one of ultimate good in some remote period of time to one of ever present good, I think my testimony may be of interest.

I had been a member of another denomination all my life, worshiping God once a week for the future, and mammon all the rest of the week for the present, until mammon failed me. Then trouble and mental anguish seemed to be crushing the very life out of me, and I lost all further interest in worldly ambition. Seeing no other way out, I turned in thought to God for His mercy and love, in order that my parting with the world might be easy, and with the hope that the promise given in Isaiah, "I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known," might be vouchsafed to me in the future.

Then in my mental anguish a wonderful sequence of thoughts seemed to take possession of me, and within a few days culminated in my walking into a very peaceful-looking room I was on the point of passing. At that moment I knew absolutely nothing of the teachings of Christian Science, nor of any one who did—not even the location of the Christian Science Reading Room, until I was in front of it. But, marvelous as it may appear to the human consciousness, that opportunity to begin the study of Christian Science occurred at the most opportune time in my life, when I was able to devote over twelve months to the study unfettered by any material influence, which I could not possibly have foreseen when I went to the Reading Room that first afternoon.
