Whenever I read, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity,"...
Whenever I read, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity," I am reminded of the time, about six years ago, when Christian Science first found me. I was in a deplorable condition, hopeless, discouraged, full of doubt and fear. The burden seemed too heavy to carry longer, so I earnestly prayed all night, asking God for help and guidance to see the Christ-way.
In the morning, a dear friend of the family called and spoke to me of Christian Science and its divine Principle. As I had never heard of this religion, however, I paid little attention to her. But she kindly persisted, saying Christian Science was just what I needed, and urging me to give it a trial. She read from the Christian Science Sentinel an article in which I was much interested. Then she explained that God is Love and is good; that I was His perfect child, and that my suffering was the result of wrong thoughts which were holding me in bondage. Then I began to realize that Christian Science was the answer to my ceaseless prayer, and asked to be told more about it.
Oh, the joy of it all I shall never forget! My whole life seemed changed, and the old was put off for the new. Help from a Christian Science practitioner was asked for and lovingly given. The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, became my constant companions. Many, many claims of sickness and false beliefs were uncovered and destroyed, returning to their nothingness.
