[Original testimony in German]
My wife and I heard of Christian Science through relatives...
My wife and I heard of Christian Science through relatives in 1906. My wife was suffering from stomach trouble and occasional nervousness. She asked for help in Christian Science, and was healed in one treatment. Although I was convinced and was exceedingly glad that she had regained her health through Christian Science, I did not think anything then of this teaching.
In the fall of 1907, I too was taken ill with a chronic stomach trouble. I could not take any food; I had no appetite, and I suffered severe pain; besides this, I had suffered almost continually for nearly twenty years from headaches, and was greatly influenced by thoughts of fear. In February, 1908, I was obliged to make a business trip of several days' duration. My condition was pitiable, and the physicians had given me up. So I decided to go to a Christian Science practitioner and ask for treatment. This was quickly given. My attention was called to the fact that I must first overcome the fear of evil and unpleasantness; because as a child of God I was secure in divine Love and nothing un pleasant could happen to me. I started on the journey cheerfully, putting my trust in what I had learned; and in spite of the cold weather, the great variety of foods and beverages, and other discomforts, I was able to carry out my trip without any inconvenience and to attend to my business without discomfort. I was profoundly grateful to God and to Christian Science for the wonderful and quick help.
Formerly I had suffered from gloomy presentiments; but this error disappeared, as I was no longer fearful and regarded the future in a different light. Up to this time I had gone through a great many trying business experiences, and although I did not lose courage, my state of affairs did not seem to be favorable. Through the right thinking adopted then, through the study of the Bible and the Christian Science literature and attendance at the Christian Science services, my condition and my circumstances improved more and more. In July, 1908, I found myself completely healed. The headaches which had tormented me almost daily for so many years had also disappeared. My business conditions continued to improve. With gratitude I remember the hour in which, after hesitating for a long time, I turned to Christian Science. I am also grateful for the ever ready help received from others.—Max Schumann, Dresden, Germany.
