The statement reported in a recent issue that "doctors practiced Christian Science in that they had to get the confidence of the patient first," is erroneous and misleading, for confidence in human personality is not taught in Christian Science. The Christian Science practitioner does not strive to gain the patient's confidence in himself, but turns him away from person to divine Principle, to God, and shows him how to rely absolutely on God for health and strength and for every human need. In the one hundred and eighteenth Psalm we read: "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes." Every step of progress in Christian Science is an added confidence in the power, presence, and availability of God, good, to destroy the beliefs of sin, sickness, and death. Christian Science teaches mankind how to gain the mental state defined by the Apostle John in the words: "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him."
