I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing,...
I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, but began to look into it in the spring of 1920. Were I asked why I took up the study, I should say it was because life was to me an unsolvable problem. For more than forty years I had been associated with a so-called orthodox denomination. In my study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I soon began to get wonderful glimpses of the new heaven and the new earth. Fear lessened, and I became healthier and happier. The clear light which Christian Science shed upon the Bible filled me with a great joy. The Bible and Science and Health have become my daily companions. I am grateful for the purification of thought and the spiritual illumination which have come to me through our Leader's inspired writings; and I highly value the privilege of active participation in the great work Mrs. Eddy was divinely led to establish. Six months after I began the study of Christian Science I became convinced that I must not divide my thinking; I felt I must be free. I therefore applied for and received a letter of dismissal from the church in which I had served as a member for many years. Later I became a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
I study the Bible as never before, and it is wondrously illuminated and made practical by Mrs. Eddy's explanations. Living as I do in a town where there is no Christian Science church, I am somewhat isolated from church influences; still, there is no loneliness or feeling of lack of God's care and love. I have had many demonstrations of God's love with unlimited evidence of the healing of sin, sickness, and other forms of error.
For a number of years I was believed to be becoming dull of hearing. Each winter I would contract a cold, and it would affect my hearing. For days and sometimes for weeks it would be difficult for me to hear ordinary conversation. I pursued the study of the textbook, carefully and thoroughly, and by the resultant understanding of my relation to God I was healed. In December, 1922, I ran a rusty nail into my foot. Four days afterward my foot and limb became swollen to the knee. I wrote to a near-by practitioner for help, and can truthfully state my foot was completely healed after the second treatment. I am learning that God is the only Life, and that real existence is in Him.
