It is with joy and thankfulness that I testify to the healing...
It is with joy and thankfulness that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science, for I have had many healings. I first heard of this religion in the spring of 1912. In the autumn I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to study it. I also attended the Sunday services when I could endure the drive, which, however, was not very often, for we live six miles from the church at Bournemouth; and just occasionally I went to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings.
In the spring of 1914, I had my first Christian Science treatment, and I shall never forget the love and patience of the practitioner. After I had been to her several times, just as I was coming away she took my hand and said, "Now just let God govern you;" and I answered, "Yes," not understanding very well what she meant. Two or three nights afterwards, I awoke with great pain in my head. How I dreaded those bad nervous headaches; for they had meant hours of intense pain, and then utter exhaustion! This time, when the pain was almost more than I could bear, I seemed to hear some one say, Why don't you let God govern you? and I just called out, Oh, please do! I must have fallen asleep at once; for the next thing I knew it was morning, and I was feeling better than I had felt for years; and I have never had a severe headache since.
I have also been healed of heart disease, chronic pleurisy, an internal disorder which caused me much trouble and pain, and many other ills. I could hardly walk any distance, and generally had to ride in a bath chair. Now I am strong and well, can do a good day's work, and walk as far as I like. Six or seven times I have walked the six miles to our service, and back again as soon as the service was over. I was healed of neuralgia at one of our Sunday morning services.
