[Written for the Sentinel]

My Task

To work in earnest; watch and pray
To keep my conscience sound;
To ask each day for strength; and take
The manna handed down;

To feed the starving, aid the weak;
To point a struggler's path;
To knock at every needy door;
To walk, with love, through wrath;

To sanction only good report;
To turn night into day;
To linger only in the light,
And wend a joyful way,—
This is my task.
