Hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world respect and love Mrs. Eddy because she made it possible for them or their friends to live in love instead of hate, in peace instead of fear, in uprightness instead of sin, and in health instead of sickness. Her endeavor was "to injure no man, but to bless all mankind" (Miscellany, p. 353).

Miss Clara Barton, the distinguished philanthropist and founder of the American Red Cross, although not a Christian Scientist, expressed in the New York American an opinion which is shared by all broad-minded, thinking people, regardless of their religious opinions. She said: "Mrs. Eddy should have the respect, admiration, and love of the whole nation, for she is its greatest woman. Her teachings spread love and good-will among men, and a Christian Scientist cannot be a Christian Scientist unless he has eliminated greed and selfishness from his nature. The Christian Scientists I have met all impress me with that same spirit of unselfishness that is characteristic of Mrs. Eddy. They are an intelligent, thinking people, and they impress me that their belief comes after careful and scientific investigation and conviction, rather than from hysterical evangelism."

One must repudiate the Bible to deny that there is divine healing. Spiritual healing was the principal proof of divinity offered by Jesus the Christ to a doubting world His was a healing ministry; and he used and taught nothing but divine or spiritual healing. He commanded all who believed in him to go forth and do likewise. He made spiritual healing the very test of Christian ministry, saying: "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils, ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." For over two centuries his disciples proved their faith by their works, healing all manner of disease and even raising the dead, thereby proving that spiritual healing was not intended merely for one age, but, like all of God's promises, was for all time. God never employed material means to accomplish healing. His healings were divine, spiritual, not the work of man. On page 231 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "What God cannot do, man need not attempt. If God heals not the sick, they are not healed, for no lesser power equals the infinite All-power; but God, Truth, Life, Love, does heal the sick through the prayer of the righteous." The truth of this statement is demonstrated daily in the experience of many thousands who rely upon Christian Science.
