Morning Tribune
May I have space to correct the statement that "Christian Scientists either stole or bought up the first three editions of Science and Health from libraries in order to get them away from public scrutiny"? It is indeed surprising that a critic should make the above statement when copies of the first and other early editions of Science and Health are at the present time advertised for sale by booksellers in Boston, New York, Kansas City, and elsewhere. The first editions of Science and Health were published approximately fifty years ago. As editions were limited to one thousand copies each, they are now scarce. That copies of these editions are still on sale proves beyond a doubt that the statement is without foundation.
Christian Science Committees on Publication are not supplied with cut and dried "stuff" with which to answer misstatements against Christian Science. From what the critic has said, it seems that he has made misstatements against Christian Science in several states. The corrections made by the Committees on Publication have been so telling in their effect that the critic believes that they have all come from Boston or some other one place. That, however, is not the case. There is no league of Committees on Publication formed against the doctor. Corrections of misstatements are made that the public may know the truth concerning the point at issue. Committees on Publication have corrected misstatements in a gentlemently and Christian manner, and they have assailed neither the doctor nor his religion in doing so. Mrs. Eddy voices the sentiments of all true Christian Scientists when she says, on page 111 of her "Miscellaneous Writings": "I love the orthodox church; and, in time, that church will love Christian Science."
