In 1918 I had an attack of influenza, which left me suffering from heart trouble and general weakness. I was attended by very good and kindly doctors, who did all that the medical faculty could do, but without being able to cure me. In 1920, when I was away from home, I had a bad heart attack; the whole of my right side became paralyzed, and I temporarily lost consciousness. After that, I was always uneasy. I was not able to leave home, for another attack and untimely death were always expected, this being what each of the doctors feared.
In 1921, after seeing a beautiful healing of a member of my family through Christian Science, I thought it might heal me too. We got into touch with the practitioner who had treated the case referred to, and she immediately began absent treatment. She advised me to study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At once I loved the teaching in this book, which struck me as being so logical; and very soon I felt the good effects of the treatment. After a month, fear had entirely left me, and my whole family as well, and it was possible for me to take up regular work again, which I had not been able to do since my first illness. I have long days of heavy work; but I go to my task with joy and gratitude for such a quick and beautiful healing, which certainly could have come only from God. All my neighbors are glad, and also very much surprised, to see me well again.
In September of last year I had a fall, which left me in a bad way. I had to keep still for some time, and apply what I knew of Christian Science. On arriving home, treatment was asked for by telephone. At once I felt an improvement; and next day I was able to rise, being hardly aware any longer of my fall.
