Nearly four years ago my husband was taken suddenly...

Nearly four years ago my husband was taken suddenly ill with what seemed a mysterious discord. For the satisfaction of his firm a diagnosis was requested; and a warning was given us that the case was so severe the patient might not live through the day. For two days after the diagnosis suicidal tendencies developed, with distressful raving, which necessitated his removal to a small nursing home near by. For some hours it had taxed the care of four of us to prevent self-damage, and his removal from home was in kindness to himself until the severity of the illusion should pass.

At the home the same verdict was given, in these words: "We cannot save your husband." I said, "I know all will be done for his comfort, and he was only brought here because we could not cope with the violence." On the way home the fact of God as Saviour, Friend, Life, Truth, and Love was held to. It was plain that human theory deserts itself in dire need and gives itself up as hopeless and lost. The kindly doctor knew that Christian Science treatment was in progress, and apart from his kindness where assistance as above stated was needed, the case was left in the care of a Christian Science practitioner, who was kept informed of the patient's condition.

This was late on a Thursday night. On Saturday morning, my call at the home was greeted with joyous surprise from the hall porter, and then from the heads of the staff, who told me that the patient was continually asking for food: in fact he was a mystery. They could do nothing but watch; and they did not know what to report. Consciousness suddenly returned, and with it the necessity for asserting his claim as a student of Christian Science, the essential part of sefl-help. From that day progress was steady. At the end of a fortnight we took a quiet holiday among dear Christian Science friends and reviewed with deeper interest the life-work of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Since that date there has been no shadow of a return of that discord, and save for a slight cold, which was promptly checked by his own mental work, he has enjoyed splendid health and happiness under most strenuous business conditions, as well as having driven a small touring car through all states of weather and in the depth of winter. Nothing has stood in the way of making the demonstration of "life in Christ Jesus," as revealed in Mrs. Eddy's numerous works, which are founded entirely on the Bible.
