Eternal Facts

The material manifestation of a numeral is not governed by itself, but by one's thought. If, for instance, one thinks of five and writes 5, the thought governs the appearance of the numeral. It has no power of itself to appear; but thought, manifested in writing, makes the 5 visible. If you change the thought and erase the visible 5, the thought still governs. So it is in the realm of divine Science. All the ideas of divine Mind are governed by Mind, independently of any seeming material manifestation.

Now, there are laws of mathematics; and if these laws are understood and correctly applied,—using the numerals according to them,—correct results will follow. No matter how many times the rules and the numerals are used, or how many are using them, they can never be exhausted. The more the law or rule is used, the more familiar one becomes with it; and correct results are more quickly obtained because of this increasing familiarity.

So it is with the individual. If he is governed according to Christian Science by the law of God, the divine Principle of harmony, the right result is manifested. But if he believes he is governed by matter,—the body or any of the illusions of the physical senses, mortal mind beliefs, materia medica, hygiene, physiology,—he is at any time liable to manifest the discord which these beliefs include.
