It is nearly fifteen years since I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I did not take up this study for physical healing; I was searching for spiritual enlightenment. At that time I was very unhappy over my concept of God. While I had everything materially to make me happy, it was what I believed He might do in the future that caused a sense of discouragement, limitation, and fear to be always in my thought. I can never tell the sense of joy, happiness, and hope that came to me when I first read Mrs. Eddy's wonderful statements concerning God: that He is good, and does not send destruction, affliction, disease, and death. During the first few months of my reading, many healings took place.

I was so interested in the book that I had forgotten about time, when one day my husband called my attention to the fact that I had not had a sick day, and was so much happier, since I began to read Science and Health; and he expressed a wish that I should never give up reading the book. Among the physical healings that I realized had taken place was freedom from sick headaches and nervous ailments from which I had suffered as long as I could remember. Since then I have relied upon the teachings of Christian Science to overcome all inharmonious conditions that have arisen in the family; and I always hold to these words in Science and Health (p. 167): "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I should like to state that I have never been obliged to call on a practitioner for help for my family or for me.

Another thing I am grateful for is that I took up this study while my daughter was very young, and that when she went out to a home of her own she was able to testify she had never taken a drop of medicine or received any material help for healing. I cannot express in words the gratitude I owe to Mrs. Eddy for her discovery of Christian Science, the understanding of which gives us, as she states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 307), the "'Peace, be still' to all human fears, to suffering of every sort."
