Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says on page 345 of "Miscellaneous Writings": "Really, Christianity turned men away from the thought of fleshly sacrifice, and directed them to spiritual attainments. Life, not death, was and is the very centre of its faith. Christian Science carries this thought even higher, and insists on the demonstration of moral and spiritual healing as eminent proof that God is understood and illustrated." We agree with our critic when he says that "all sickness is the direct result of either ignorance or sin." To overcome these through the power of God results in destroying disease, and is spiritual healing. It is the method of healing which Jesus taught and practiced. He is the Way; and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, declares on page 30, "We cannot choose for ourselves, but must work out our salvationin the way Jesus taught." Christian Scientists understand that God is ready and willing to heal, because His very nature, power, and law are always adequately available and spontaneously responsive to man's need, whatever that need may be.

Christian Science does teach that disease is unreal, because not created by God, who is Love, and because the Master always destroyed disease as the work of the devil. Jesus neither would nor could have destroyed God's work. Disease seems real to human sense, but that spiritual understanding destroys it is proof that it is an illusion.
