Christian Science teaches mankind to turn from human...

Christian Science teaches mankind to turn from human desire and render obedience to divine Principle, or absolute Truth; for only in this way can happiness, freedom, and salvation be found. That is the cardinal difference between Christian Science and new-thought. In Christian Science one learns to pray, "Not my will, but thine, be done," to experience, as did Jesus, our Way-shower, that God's will for His children is deliverance from all evil, adequate supply for every need, and peace and joy in the consciousness of man's oneness with the Father. Christian Science is a religious movement, showing its followers how to make their religion practical, and revealing to them the possibility of demonstrating more and more of the Christ-life.

While reading Jesus' healing of the sick of the palsy, in the ninth chapter of Matthew, Mrs. Eddy became so conscious of the fact that God's unchanging love is the same now as in Jesus' time, and that one never reaches out for it in vain, that she rose, completely healed, from what, according to the doctors, was to have been her deathbed. That certainly proved that "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" is potent even now, whenever one yields to it. Mrs. Eddy spent the three years following her healing in searching for and demonstrating that law which humanity had lost sight of since the first centuries of the Christian era; and as the fruit of her research her principal work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," was published in 1875. This book explains the Science of healing through divine Mind. Prayer — communing with God, Truth, and listening to Him — frees us from all wrong thoughts and beliefs, and teaches us to know man as God's spiritual creation, as His image and likeness. In the measure that divine ideas destroy belief in the carnal mind and God's kingdom appears, the dream of sin, sickness, and suffering disappears before the increasing consciousness of the purity and perfection of God's manifestation.

As may be seen from the above, the Christian Science modus operandi is purely spiritual, and not a trace can be found in it of the "thought-force" of the so-called human mind. Christian Science is the Science of Jesus' teachings, bringing to humanity the blessings of primitive Christianity by showing it how to pray: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
