I am indeed very grateful for Christian Science and for what it has done for me during the last thirteen years. It has healed me of bad headaches, incessant bilious attacks, severe colds, and sore throat; also of a sprained ankle, which was overcome in three days. Above all, I thank God for the protecting power of Christian Science during the war. Enlisting in 1914, I was soon undergoing great hardships at Gallipoli; but, although I was there from the first day to the evacuation, I was never for a moment unable to do my duty. My escapes from instant death were wonderful. I was commissioned in 1916, and started on the Palestine campaign; and during three very trying years, I found that although subject to heat, lack of water and food, and so on, as long as I honestly relied on God nothing else mattered.

In September, 1918, Spanish influenza started and swept through the ranks with frightful effects. I was suddenly attacked when walking to my tent, and became so ill, according to the doctors, that my life was despaired of, as I suffered from high fever, pleurisy, double pneumonia, and Spanish influenza. Cables from the War Office were received at home, and absent treatment in Christian Science immediately started. One evening I seemed to be passing on; the next morning I awoke perfectly well. Before the war I suffered a great deal from the heat, but I never experienced the slightest discomfort in the East, although I had to work at periods when even the natives found the conditions unbearable.

All problems after the war, especially as regards business, have been most wonderfully solved. Words cannot adequately express my deep gratitude for all that Christian Science, as given to us by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has done for me, and is doing to-day. For the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, also for church duties, I am most thankful. Looking back on the last thirteen years one can see nothing but wonderful proofs of God's never failing strength and love to me and mine, in the face of apparently overwhelming difficulties.
