Throughout the world, thousands upon thousands of intelligent people are accepting Christian Science as bringing to them a practical understanding of the teaching of Jesus that "ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Free from what? Free from the belief that evil is real. If sickness and sin are real, then it was wrong for Jesus to overcome them. Yet this is precisely what he did and demanded of his followers. He said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." The battle against sin and sickness in the old way—believing them to be real—has proved futile. Just as soon, however, as we see that sin, sickness, and death claim to come into existence through a false concept of God and His spiritual creation, we begin to awaken to the true significance of Jesus' teachings on the subject, and a great desire to study the Bible from the spiritual standpoint comes into our heart. Then we see that light and darkness cannot exist at one and the same time. On page 480 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "The Bible declares: 'All things were made by Him [the divine Word]; and without Him was not anything made that was made.' This is the eternal verity of divine Science. If sin, sickness, and death were understood as nothingness, they would disappear. As vapor melts before the sun, so evil would vanish before the reality of good. One must hide the other. How important, then, to choose good as the reality!"

Christian Scientists do not profess to have reached the ultimate goal of absolute truth, but they gratefully acknowledge that a study of Science and Health has enabled them to be better men and women through a spiritual understanding of the Master's mission to mankind. Speaking to each one of us, Paul says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."
